Meet the B'nai Mitzvah Boys

Asher Lowell Levy

אשר לב לוי

Social Butterfly, Sushi Enthusiast & Future Lawyer

Born on April 3, 2012, in West Bloomfield, Michigan, Asher Lowell Levy is the ultimate people person—he makes friends everywhere he goes (sometimes before he even knows their names). Whether he’s gaming, playing tennis or track, or debating the best sushi, he’s always up for a chat and a laugh.

A lover of English/ELA, Minecraft, and anime, Asher has been eagerly awaiting his b’nai mitzvah, following in the footsteps of his siblings and cousins. With the help of Chabad of Novi, Adat Shalom Synagogue, and his tutor, Sam Arnold, he’s ready for the big day. His mitzvah project reflects his kind heart—he volunteered with JCC Peercorp, supporting organizations like Yad Ezra, Jewish Family Services, and Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit, and he’ll be volunteering again this summer.

At home, Asher is happiest when his family is all together, especially when his brother comes home from college. He loves spending time with his extended family and lifelong friends (many of whom happen to be cousins). His mornings wouldn’t be complete without greetings from his pets—dogs Coco and Violet, and his cat, Mitts.

A natural-born negotiator, Asher spent years charming his way into getting his allowance early—until his mom, who negotiates for a living, set official terms. Even then, he always found a loophole. It’s no surprise that he dreams of becoming a lawyer and attending the University of Kansas for law school. If he could have any superpower, it would be mind reading—probably to get an extra edge in those negotiations.

If he could have a superpower? Mind reading. If he could eat one thing forever? Sushi from a conveyor belt. As he steps into Jewish adulthood, Asher does so with confidence, curiosity, and a whole lot of charisma—and we can’t wait to celebrate with him!

Yoav Rubin Glaser

יואב רובין גלייסר

Weather Enthusiast, Running Machine & Future Storm Chaser Extraordinaire

Born on February 2, 2012, in Petach Tikvah, Israel, Yoav Rubin Glaser is a track-running, tuba-playing, weather-obsessed powerhouse of curiosity and kindness. A proud Geisler Middle School student, he loves cross country, Fortnite, learning about natural disasters, and delivering daily weather reports (seriously, he’s better than your weather app).

Preparing for his b’nai mitzvah was a challenge, but Yoav tackled it with determination, his signature smile, and a lot of help from his teachers at Adat Shalom Synagogue and his bar mitzvah tutor, Sam Arnold. As part of his mitzvah project, he’s raising money for the Lone Soldier Center in memory of Michael Levin, which supports lone soldiers (like his dad), who left their home countries to defend Israel—something that hits close to home.  Always the first to raise his hand when help is needed, Yoav volunteers with Adat Shalom Synagogue in programs like Be a Mensch (BAM!) and Volunteer Day; and the Walled Lake PTSA Council where he helps with set up and clean up for various events.

Yoav is a devoted brother, a loyal friend, and an animal lover who cherishes his pets Trixie, Lou, Rae, and Nugget. He sees his Autism as part of what makes him unique, but really, it’s his big heart, sharp mind, and ability to see people for who they truly are.

His dream? To be rich, chase storms, get married, and become a dad. His ideal superpower? Controlling the weather—both for fun and to help the planet. As Yoav steps into Jewish adulthood, he does so with confidence, curiosity, and probably a fun fact about tornadoes ready to go. We can’t wait to celebrate this milestone with him!
